Landro Education Edition Support |
What sorts of video files can I use with Landro?Landro is able to accept a number of video file formats. For any of these, the process is the same: simply copy your supported video file into the "Landro Videos" folder, and when you start Landro (or return to the Videos page from another screen, if Landro is already running), your additional videos will be listed, available for playback, tagging and study. H.264 filesLandro accepts video files using a compression technology called "H.264," also known as "AVC" or "MPEG-4 part 10." These files need to be in the ".MP4" file format. This is an increasingly popular format for digital camcorders, particularly high-definition ones, and is also used on Apple iPods and Sony PlayStation Portables. Windows Media filesLandro accepts video files in the ".WMV" Windows Media format. This is the preferred file format for Windows Media Player, and is generated by a variety of Windows video products (including Windows Movie Maker, free with some versions of Windows, and Windows Media Encoder, a free download from Microsoft). DV-AVI filesAlthough not widely supported like the .MP4 and .WMV formats, Landro also accepts video files in the ".AVI" file format containing "DV" video content (typically recorded from a Mini-DV camcorder). Landro Education Edition (but not Student Edition) is able to record video into this format, for preserving maximum quality from Mini-DV camcorders (at the expense of high hard drive space requirements).
Landro's support of the .MP4 and .WMV file formats means that you are never limited to particular cameras or capture products. Rather, any product or program that can deliver a video file in one of these widely supported formats can be used for your study of video in Landro. |
