Landro Capture Box Hook-up

Capture box hook-up The Landro capture box is a simple device, sort of a record-only digital VCR in a box about the size of a deck of cards. On one edge there are input connectors for video and audio cables. On the other edge there are connectors for the power supply (a small transformer) and a USB drive. On the top surface are the two buttons you use to control the box, and several indicator lights. That's it!

Connecting cables

You connect your video source (such as a camcorder or conventional VCR) to the capture box using either a "composite" video cable (an "RCA" connector, typically yellow) or an "S-Video" cable (a four-pin "mini-DIN" connector). If both connection types are available on your video source, the S-Video connection gives a slightly better recording.

You connect your audio source (the same camcorder or VCR as the video, or possibly a separate amplifier for a microphone) to the capture box using standard consumer audio cables ("RCA" connectors, typically white for left and red for right). If you only have mono audio, connect it to the white audio input connector on the capture box.

You connect your power adapter cable (included with the capture box) to the box at the matching connector.

Mounting

You may want your capture box to be mounted in a permanent location for repeated use.

If you are using a tripod for a camera, it is a simple matter to attach the capture box to a tripod leg as shown in the picture. Some strong double-sided foam tape can secure the box, and twist ties or cable ties can secure the cables. Leave enough slack in the audio/video cables to allow freedom of movement for the camera. Periodically check that the cables are not wearing at the cable ties, and that the connectors are not straining.

You can also mount the capture box directly to a wall. You might again use double-sided foam tape for the mount, or use metal or plastic bands across the face of the capture box to screws in the wall for more durable connection. (Remember, attaching and removing USB drives will cause some movement of the box; a simple foam tape attachment will need to periodically be replaced.)

In any mounting arrangement, you need to allow free access to the USB connector and to the two buttons on the face of the box. Also do not block visibility of the indicator lights at both ends of the face (the smoked plastic edges nearest the connectors) since these indicate good signals and activity. In the picture above, the gray ring is where both buttons are located, and the blue object projecting from the bottom edge of the capture box is a USB stick.

Refer to the instruction sheet for more details about using the capture box.
